Rhein

Install Rhein

Rhein for Linux, in open beta.

Arch Linux (AUR)

A prebuilt package, or one that builds from source on your machine.

paru -S rhein-bin # prebuilt
paru -S rhein # from source

AppImage

One file that runs on most distributions. Make it executable and start it.

Download
chmod +x Rhein-x86_64.AppImage
./Rhein-x86_64.AppImage

Prebuilt binary

A tarball from GitHub Releases with the binary, desktop entry and icon.

Download
tar xf rhein-*-x86_64-linux.tar.gz
cd rhein-*/ && ./install --prefix ~/.local

From source

The install script checks for system packages, offers to install missing ones with pacman, apt, dnf or zypper, then builds and installs Rhein. Needs Rust 1.85 or later; the first build takes a while because it compiles libwebrtc.

git clone https://github.com/alpwrk/rhein.git
cd rhein
./install
Options for ./install
--prefix ~/.local
Install into your home directory instead of /usr
--build-only
Only build target/production/rhein

--no-deps

--uninstall

xdg-desktop-portal with the backend for your desktop: wlroots, Hyprland, GNOME or KDE. Add -gtk on wlroots and Hyprland for the file chooser
